Drink and Drug Drive Behavioural Change Programs

The 'Drink and Drug Driver Behaviour Change Program' is a program approved by VicRoads under the Road Safety Act 1986. Uniting is one of a number of providers approved by VicRoads to deliver Drink and Drug Driver Behaviour Change Programs.

Uniting offers:

  • Drink Drive Behavioural Change Program
  • Drug Drive Behavioural Change Program
  • Drink and Drug Drive Intensive Behavioural Change Program

These programs are aligned to the new laws for alcohol and/or drug related offences that came into effect from 30th April, 2018.

What do the new laws mean for me?

If you are caught:

  • with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) over the legal limit or
  • found to have an illicit drug within your system while you were driving or
  • you took a prescription medication in a way that the doctor did not prescribe and it has affected you’re driving.

There are now increased penalties and consequences associated with these actions. The increased penalties will differ according to when, the type of offence, your age, if you have a licence or a permit and if this was or wasn’t your first offence?

For detailed information about these penalties please go to the Vic Roads Website. If you are unsure or a bit confused our staff at Uniting will work with you to understand the type of offence you have been charged with, the penalties associated with those charges and what you need to do to reinstate your licence.

What is a Behavioural Change Program?

One of the requirements is that people caught drink and/or drug driving with have to participate in one of three Behavioural Change Programs. The different Behavioural Change Programs have been specifically designed to address issues associated with alcohol and driving or drug driving or an intensive course designed for serious offences.  The Behavioural Change Programs explores the underlying causes of your offence and assists to put into place strategies to avoid it happening again. It can also provide the opportunity to explore any issues you might have with alcohol and/or drugs.

What type of Behavioural Change Program will I need to complete?

There are different types of Behavioural Change Programs. Which one you will need to attend will depend on the details of your offence. Our staff can help you identify the right program for you.
