Who is RE>GEN?
RE>GEN (Random Evolution of Growth, Entertainment and Nature) is an incorporated, non-for-profit environmental festival and event management organisation. We are committed to linking individuals and communities to the environment through creating sustainable musical festivals and cutting-edge environmentally sustainable events.
With a focus on Interweaving diverse music, performance and art with environmental consciousness and on-ground native re-vegetation works, RE>GEN has developed the connection and understanding of nature within the broader public and is responsible for organising the planting of 47, 900 plants since March 2005.
What does RE>GEN do?
RE>GEN’s primary focus is on creating environmentally focused musically diverse festivals and events for all-ages.
Our Premier event, The ‘REGROWTH’ Festival is currently building towards the fourth installment to be held on the ANZAC day long weekend from 24th to 26 April 2010. This multi-staged environmental festival will continue its natural organic growth as a musically/artistically diverse, educational, sustainable, community driven event with the help of partners and supporters. If you are interested to become involved please contact us.
Since our inception we have also worked with other organisations to create small events that focus people’s energy and make people aware of their surroundings (eg. National Tree Day and Anvil Hill Awareness event). If you wish to make us aware of any other events that you would like RE>GEN to bring a focus to, please contact us.
RE>GEN also offers its skills as event managers to other organisations that wish to be at the cutting edge of environmental sustainability. We have worked with peak bodies such as Greening Australia to house, feed and entertain participants and are always interested in assisting other organisations to present their events in a fresh and sustainable manner. Why does RE>GEN create this space?
RE>GEN identifies that our busy lives often leads us to forget the intimate connection that we have with nature.
Nature has a sheer beauty and creates a sense of wellbeing that is undescribable. The environment also performs a number of essential ecosystem processes that sustains human life.
Nature is the lungs, liver, kidneys and circulation system of our landscape - it purifies our air and water so that we can breath and drink, makes the soil that grows our food, and provides the resources to make all our material goods.
Our actions of broad-scale habitat clearance and the manipulation of scarce water resources to provide for human settlements has led to devastating environmental impacts such as erosion and land degradation, soil salinity, water pollution and biodiversity decline. At the same time we have introduced unsuitable farming and land management practices and hundreds of exotic and feral species to a landscape that has evolved in isolation over millions of years.
Within a meagre 200 years, the blink of an eye in geological time, humans have altered a sacred balance that has led to the degradation and pollution of our Australian environment. We want all to see that something clearly must be done.
With over 6 billion of us now sharing this precious Earth, we are placing unsustainable stresses on the ecosystems that sustain us and all life on our planet. To feed our energy and transport needs, we have begun to gradually warm our climate, which will accentuate already existing problems and further threaten life on this planet.
RE>GEN understands that despite the feeling of helplessness that these problems can create,
there are things that we can do as individuals, as communities and as members of the human race.
It is just a matter of choice.
We can choose to do nothing and allow our planet to decline and render us to extinction, or we can choose to make a difference.

There is no doubt that people enjoy and care about our environment. Limited awareness of the nature and the scale of environmental problems and of what to do about them is a major limiting factor in finding solutions. Providing opportunities for collective learning and participation is a positive 'RE>GEN' way of treating the afflictions facing our beautiful planet.
Simple actions such as planting trees can and do make a difference.
