ReGen announces its program of activities for Drug Action Week (12/06/13)

Melbourne, VIC, 12th June 2013 – UnitingCare ReGen, the lead alcohol and other drug treatment and education agency of UnitingCare Victoria & Tasmania, today announced its calendar of events for this year’s Drug Action Week (June 16 – June 22).

Drug Action Week is a week of activities held nationally to raise awareness about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues in Australia.  This year’s theme is: Drugs, Communities & Families.

ReGen CEO, Laurence Alvis, said:

Whilst ReGen works within the community 365 days a year to reduce the harms caused by alcohol and other drugs, we welcome an annual opportunity to celebrate the journeys of our service users and to recognise the dedication and hard work of our staff.

It is also an opportunity for us to recognise the impact of alcohol and other drugs on families.  Families affected by an individual’s AOD use can carry a heavy burden. It can significantly strain relationships, increase social isolation and undermine families’ resilience and physical, emotional and financial security, regardless of their socio-economic status.

ReGen strives to provide the highest level of Family Inclusive Practice to our service users and their families and hopes events such as Drug Action Week can drive home the message that we need to work together as a community to tackle problematic drug and alcohol use and to promote healthy behaviours to  growing generations.

ReGen will be hosting a number of activities during drug week:

  • Monday 17 June – Community Lunch @ ReGen 12.30pm – 2pm A free community lunch for people who use our services, our neighbours, staff, other service providers and anyone else who is interested in what we do.  As well as providing some great home cooking and firing up the barbecue, ReGen staff will be providing tours of our services and answering any questions about our work.  People planning to attend can register via Eventbrite:
  • Tuesday 18 June – Port Phillip Prison Visitors Information Stall ReGen staff who work at Port Phillip Prison will be running a stall in the visitor’s centre at the prison, providing drug education information for families and significant others visiting people in prison.
