The controversial and much hyped Channel 7 documentary ‘Such is Life’ has attracted much discussion and debate. For those of us who work daily with individuals and families seeking to rebuild lives damaged by dependant or chaotic drug use, over the years the Cousins’ case elicits conflicting responses.

18th August, 2010 - August 31st is Overdose Awareness Day!

Overdoses affect everyone.  Hundreds of individuals die from drug overdoses every year in Australia.  For every one, there are families, friends and communities that must live with the burden of a life cut short.  For every fatality, society must absorb the cost of expensive medical interventions, police and coronial investigations.

We are all affected by the impacts of drug overdoses.  Hundreds of individuals die from drug overdoses every year in Australia.  For every one, there are families, friends and communities that must live with the burden of a life cut short.  Families directly affected by overdose not only have to deal with the distress of losing a loved one, but the stigma associated with drug use often  affects their ability to mourn publicly without feeling guilt or shame.
